Cherub Choir AND Children's Choir

This year has been one of adjustments for the parents, not the kids.  We have really settled into having a busy life with kids activities and homework!  I'm not complaining, but I will tell you that it takes a few weeks to get your groove.  I have learned a few things recently.  I know the last minute we can leave work before being late, whether we should eat dinner before or after an activity, whether we should do baths in the morning or evening etc.  Each week our efficiency is improving.  With that said, the one day we don't have to worry about all those things are Sunday evenings at 5pm.  It's that time the kids go to choir practice.  A Sunday practice is how I justify breaking my rule of letting the kids be involved in more than one activity each, at a time.  This is Davis' second year in the children's choir, and Hanna's first year in the Cherub choir.  They both did great and I am super proud of them!  Here are a few shots of them during their performance.  You can probably tell Hanna was a sponge to all the attention I was throwing her way from the front pew.

What A Girl Wants

If you know Hanna, you know she makes her wants very clear.  She is already having opinions about what she wants to wear, what she wants to eat and most recently, how she wants to wear her hair.  Pig tails are her new favorite.  She has worn them all week.  I have to get to Target to get matching rubber bands!  I have so few matching sets.  I snapped this picture this morning while we ate breakfast at Chick-fil-A.  Gotta love her!

Student of the Week

Davis made Student of the Week and he was thrilled!  The theme in his class is Hollywood Red Carpet.  There is a special reward each day of the week for the student of the week and it ends with star sunglasses and his name on a star in the hall of fame.  Here is a photo that I was able to catch of him with his hand touching his star (his name is there, but its hard to tell from the photo).  We are so proud of our student of the week!  Way to go Davis!

Davis' first Soccer Game

Today was Davis' first official soccer game with the YMCA.  His team is the named the Saber Cats and today's game was against the Panthers.

He has played soccer since he was at Primrose (Kinder Kixx program).  That mostly involved skills training and no games.  We put him in the Lil' Kickers program in Morrisville after he graduated from Primrose and we were impressed with the skills he knew from his time participating in Kinder Kixx.  Mainly because it was part of an extra curricula we signed him up for, it was during the school day so we never saw what he learned in that program other than we kicked around in the back yard.  It was clear he wanted to play games at Lil' Kickers when all he wanted to do was hurry through the skills training to play the scrimmage game at the end of the session.  We figured it was time to sign him up for another league when he kept asking to play soccer.  We wanted a program that would have actual games.  We have been pleased with the Y program so far.

Davis did great today, hustled the whole time and even scored the first goal of the season!  He was very proud of himself.  As were we.  Here are a few shots from the game.

Hanna obviously prefers the iPad to the game.  Good thinking Oma!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

My sister in law recorded Hanna singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the car on the way back to our house today for my brother.  She got her lines mixed up a bit, but its precious anyway.  Davis also gave a shout out to Uncle Nick at the end of the video (after being busted with his thumb in his mouth).  Enjoy!

Hanna the Clown!

She may look like a clown, but let me tell you, she was proud of herself!  She came downstairs with a big grin on her face fully expecting me to tell her how beautiful she looked.  She wasn't quite prepared for my surprise and initial reaction of horror mixed with anger.  We had just fed the kids breakfast, sent them upstairs to watch cartoons in our bed while Vince and I grabbed a bite to eat before getting ready for church.  My reaction was based primarily on not knowing what else may have had make up (the list that went through my mind included:  walls, furniture fabric, clothes etc.).

It was actually a quite harmless event and after I realized the only mess was on her face, I enjoyed the moment and wanted to share it with everyone.  What a cute clown!

Cheese!

Davis lost his first front tooth today at Track Out Camp.  He was so excited, he called me at work from Vince's cell phone.  Hanna is totally in amazement at the gap.  She keeps asking to look at it, I think she is caught between curious and confused!

Beach Photos 2011

Staycation mixed with a Vacation

Today is Friday.  The last day off "technically" before going back to work.  We have been down at my parent's condo at the beach since Wednesday.  Monday and Tuesday we stayed at home and enjoyed time together as a family.  Davis has been tracked out the past few weeks and we have enjoyed taking it easy.  Monday we completed many long overdue tasks that have been lingering on our to do list.  The biggest one was going to the Wake County Clerk of Court to complete the paperwork to request a re-adoption of Hanna.  That is a re-adoption for NC.  This is about a year late since her gotcha day was July 26th.  This is an important last step to make our process official.  This step allows us to obtain a birth certificate for her, which she will need for school.  After that, we had a date with Davis.  We realized he doesn't go to many nice restaurants when he asked us why they brought bread to the table.  I guess it's time to expose my son to some new experiences. He is getting to be a young man and is maturing so fast.

Tuesday we spent the morning canning vegetables from our garden.  We don't have a huge garden, but too much is bearing and the thought of it going bad was driving me crazy.  So what do you do with lots of tomatoes and cucumbers? Make salsa and pickles of course.  Here is a picture from our morning work.

I often think I was meant for earlier times.  I love to do things that my grandmothers did.  They of course did it out of necessity, I do it out of fun.  I have learned a few skills from them, including sewing and crocheting.  I don't have the time to practice either skill to get close enough to perfect them, but I like to know I can do the basics.

In the afternoon we took Davis roller skating.  What a blast!  Seeing Vince in a pair of skates- now that is just funny.  Even though it wasn't his best sport, Davis certainly gave thanks to his Dad for trying.  I know it meant the world to him to have us both there.

Hanna was in school on Monday and Tuesday, so we were able to spend some quality one on one time with Davis.  We made it a point to pick Hanna up early every day though.
