My children's feet

I have always had an obsession of capturing my kids hands and feet in photos.  I don't know why.  I guess for me its the clearest evidence that my kids are growing.  Faster than I prefer.  It's such a quandary.  I want them to grow up so they can dress themselves, to make their own juice, start their own movies, but in the same vein, I can't stand it that they are growing up.  I have included a photo of Davis' feet/foot in each of his yearly photo books.  I am now trying to do the same for Hanna.  Here is the latest from a joint bath session when I was trying to get baths done quickly (before leaving for somewhere we were supposed to be by a certain time).  Except on this particular day, I realized I had an opportunity.  I was easily distracted, grabbed my camera and caught this picture of their feet side by side since the light coming in the bathroom window happened to be really bright on that morning.

Really?

Davis is sick.  He has a fever.  He got up in the middle of the night last night and lost his dinner.  He has been able to keep liquids down since about 10 am today.  Tomorrow he turns 7.  It just doesn't seem right to be sick on your birthday.  Obviously, there are a lot of things that could be much worse, but I'm his mom and well, frankly, I don't ever want him to hurt.  I am hoping that whatever bug bit him, it only has staying power for 24 hours (or less).  Fingers crossed he will be over the hump with another night under his belt.  We have a roller skating party to go to tomorrow!

Feel better soon, Davis.  Want another popsicle?

Easter Outfits

I know Easter is MUCH more than the cute outfits, but it certainly is one of my favorite holidays to take photos of the kids.

Thanks to Aunt Lauren and Uncle Nick, they stocked an easter basket full of candy and today, complete with bunny glasses.  The kids got a kick out of them.

Easter Egg Hunt at Church

There is nothing like a good egg hunt. Unfortunately for us, the kids had to wait an extra day due to showers on Saturday so we had the hunt on Sunday.   The event was well worth the wait.  They had fun, and found lots of eggs (candy).  The fellowship and crafts were fun too.
What are boys to do while they wait for the "green light"?  Play with their baskets of course!
Little sister always follows big brothers lead.
 Waiting for "GO"!
There she goes!

Silly Hanna

While we were at soccer practice last week for Davis, Hanna made a new discovery.  She decided to  roll down a steep hill close to the practice field and proceeded to have a blast.  I had to capture a few videos of the fun.  She did this NO less than 20 times.  She slept like a log that night!  Luckily, I had brought my new birthday camera (Canon S100) with me to try and test different settings.

Booked Davis' 7th Birthday Party Today

Taking a stroll down memory lane thinking about how fast 7 years can go by.

Busted!

Hanna has been doing great going to bed on her own, not begging to sleep with us and crying when we say "no".  However, she just isn't tired when we put her to bed at 8 p.m.  We can hear her upstairs jumping out of bed, going to her bathroom, and all sorts of other things to pass the time away.  Last night when I went to bed to kiss her goodnight (a ritual I do for both kids before I head to bed) this is what I found.  I had to capture the memory.  The cutest thing is, she is snuggling with her Llama Llama book.  She has all of them and LOVES them all.  Too cute!
Yes, her bed is a mess, but if you ask her all of her stuff animals are essential and I can tell you she snuggles with them all.  She is good about rotating the love around.

Hanna and the Camellia Bush

Sunday we went in to visit my parents to celebrate my birthday.  After dinner, we went outside to enjoy the nice weather.  Hanna became fascinated with my mom's camellia bushes.  They are big and in FULL bloom.  We brought them home and put them in water.

Homework Time

It seems like our weeks are a lot like the movie Groundhog Day.

I was inspired to blog this evening because Davis is reading Groundhog Day (not the movie version, a 1st grade reader book) this week.  Each night of the week there is an assignment associated with the book.  Monday night he had to make a prediction on what the book will be about by the title and taking a picture walk.  Tonight he was to list a question about the book before he read the book, while he was reading the book and after he finished reading the book.

Each night is much of the same for us.  Vince gets home with Davis before me and Hanna.  He starts dinner, Davis starts homework.  I get home, jump in to help finish making dinner and we eat.  We often give several reminders to the kiddos to eat.  Clean kitchen.  Give baths.  Read.  Bedtime.  On  a good night, they both stay in bed and don't get up.

Interestingly, today was anything but a normal night.  I took a half day off from work to spend some QT with Davis.  I picked him up from school, had lunch at the RDU observation deck and then we went to watch a 3-D movie.  Vince had a meeting at church tonight so I was going solo with the homework tonight.  On the upside, the shift in routine was good because it gave me a chance to work with Hanna practicing her handwriting.

Routines have their advantage, and generally the Walkers like them.  But sometimes it's fun to bend the rules a little.

The kids hard at work after bath time, doing homework.  The Walkers are all kinds of crazy mixing things up!
